The reason for the demolition of the monument to the “black baron” Wrangel was violations during its installation, the Rostov-on-Don city administration reported, RostovGazeta reported on November 30.
Referring to the response of the city administration, the publication reports that the installation of the monument to Peter Wrangel was not approved by a special interdepartmental commission, and therefore the monument was demolished.
It should be noted that the Rostov-on-Don administration previously reported that the organizers did not agree to the installation of the monument to Wrangel. The monument to the “black baron”, erected on November 7 on the territory of the Second Cadet Corps of Emperor Don Nicholas II, was dismantled on November 29. This educational institution is part of the structure of the Don State Technical University (DSTU). The installation of the monument sparked numerous public protests.
On November 15, the All-Russian public organization for the protection of the family “All-Russian Parental Resistance” (RVS) issued an open appeal on the inadmissibility of erecting a monument to Wrangel on the territory of an educational institution. The RVS recalled that Wrangel collaborated with the organizers of the intervention in Soviet Russia (France, Great Britain) and also negotiated with various Ukrainian nationalist forces. Social activists also noted that the installation of a monument to Wrangel causes a division in Russian society and, in the situation of a special military operation, can play into the hands of the enemy.
