Hamas says attack in Jerusalem left at least three people dead and 16 injured

The fatal victims were two women, one 24 years old, the other about 60 years old, and a 73-year-old man.

Two shooters drove into Jerusalem in a car, armed themselves and began shooting at people at the bus stop. The suspects were shot and killed by authorities and a civilian at the scene.

The police blocked the street and began searching to see if the attackers were still at large. The video of this moment shows people running away when they heard shots.

Hamas claims attack
Five hours after the first shots were fired, Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack. The group confirmed that two of the attackers had links to the group.

Before it was confirmed by Hamas, Israeli authorities had already condemned the connection between the suspects and the Islamic group.

The two shooters were identified as Murad and Ibrahim Nemer, brothers who live in Sur Baher, east of Jerusalem, and have ties to Hamas, the agency said. Jerusalem Post. Murad was arrested in Israel between 2010 and 2020 on suspicion of planning terrorist attacks in the Gaza Strip. Ebrahim was detained in 2014 for the same reason.

Police found a large amount of ammunition in the suspects’ car. Soon after, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir arrived at the crime scene and declared: “This shows that we cannot show weakness, we must only talk to Hamas with weapons. My position on the ceasefire is known; Hamas cannot speak to us with two voices.”

Ben-Gvir also stressed the importance of providing weapons to civilians. The head of the Israeli government, Benjamin Netanyahu, defended the same position.
