
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has promised to return control of the Turkish megacities of Ankara and Istanbul to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in local elections, writes Hürriyet Daily News on November 30.
According to him, the AKP will intensify its efforts in the March 2024 local elections to win the elections. “Key cities controlled by the opposition”especially in Istanbul and the capital Ankara.
“We are preparing for an election in which we have no choice but to win.”Erdogan said.
Criticizing municipalities led by the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), especially in Istanbul, the Turkish leader accused the CHP of not even continuing the projects that the AKP started when it ruled the metropolis.

Recall that the leadership of the municipalities of Istanbul and Ankara, traditionally belonging to the AKP, passed to CHP politicians Ekrem Imamoglu and Mansur Yavas, respectively, in the 2019 elections.
