Marvel Comics and the National Lacrosse League announced a multi-year program to promote the game and its origins through comics and theme nights, the league said Nov. 30.
There are already 15 Marvel Super Hero Nights planned for 2024 linked to the season’s matches. On those nights, teams will play in special Marvel superhero-themed jerseys and fans will be able to purchase a new lacrosse comic book with a variety of star player-themed covers.
While the comics will be different in appearance, they will be a single story, written by Paul Allor and with art by Sean Beyal, telling the story of the origins and development of lacrosse.
Lacrosse is a team game with a small ball and a special stick. Invented by North American Indians and now most common in the US and Canada. On October 13, lacrosse was included in the 2028 Olympic Games for the first time since 1908.
The National Lacrosse League is one of the largest professional lacrosse organizations in the United States and has existed since 1986. League games are played under box lacrosse rules on grass hockey rinks instead of ice.
