Four men aged between 22 and 27 were arrested by the PSP on suspicion of drug trafficking in Barreiro, Setúbal district, and one of them was placed in preventive detention, police said this Friday.
A statement from the Setúbal PSP District Command indicated that the arrests were made on Tuesday by agents of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Barreiro Division as part of an investigation into drug trafficking.
“The social anxiety caused by drug trafficking near a commercial enterprise located in the Recosta area of Barreiro was caused by the proximity of the suspects’ home,” the police emphasized.
According to PSP, those arrested were drug dealers and used employees to sell them directly to consumers.
On Tuesday, he said, five searches were carried out, four of them in houses, during which suspects were detained and drugs and other items allegedly related to drug trafficking were seized.
10,709 individual doses of hashish, 15,327 MDMA, 21.5 cocaine, 26.2 ecstasy, as well as two precision scales and 1,761.20 euros in cash were seized.
According to the police, four of the detainees had already attended their first judicial interrogation in the Barreiro court, while one of the detainees was subject to compulsory preventive detention and the other three were subject to periodic interrogations.
“PSP Barreiro believes that it has dealt a serious blow to the criminal network responsible for drug trafficking in the area and through this action has restored public peace and tranquility in the coastal area of the city,” he added.
