Former Sporting player Teofilo Gutierrez, now with Deportivo Cali in Colombia, was suspended for four games by the South American country’s league on Thursday for touching the buttock of a Deportes Tolima employee during halftime of a game between the two teams.
“On November 25, in a game played at the Manuel Murillo Toro Stadium, an act occurred that we consider extremely serious and sensitive, and its protagonist was Teofilo Gutiérrez, who, as we were informed, was leaving the field for the locker room when, after passing to the side a club employee touched his private parts (butt) and spanked him,” the league said in a statement.
The Colombian league’s report added that the 38-year-old South American “repeated the offensive behavior” upon returning from the dressing room at the end of the half. Employees of the home team and employees of the teams broadcasting the match witnessed what was happening.
In addition to the disqualification, the athlete who played for Sporting in 2015 will have to pay compensation in excess of one million pesos (more than 200 euros). The league is also asking Deportivo Cali, for whom Gutierrez plays, to launch awareness campaigns to promote respect for women.
Theo Gutierrez defends himself
The Colombian player has already responded to the accusation and said that he always respects women. The former Sporting player says the accusations were made without evidence.
“I have always expressed the greatest respect for women, both in the personal and in the sports sphere, so I consider statements about me slander. They are unfounded and untrue. I will defend my good name by all means necessary. cases,” he said.
