The Estonian authorities are considering the possibility of deporting residents of the republic who receive Russian citizenship during a special military operation, Prime Minister of the Republic Kaja Kallas confirmed on December 1 in response to a parliamentary request, Postimees writes. .
“In a situation where the acquisition of Russian citizenship by a person is a clear sign of support for terrorism and the actions of the Russian Federation against Estonia and our allies, it is certainly necessary to consider the question of the suitability of this person to live in a democratic and humane country that respects rights.”Callas said.
The Prime Minister of Estonia highlighted that the residence permit of a long-term resident can be revoked in accordance with Article 241 of the Aliens Act if the foreigner poses a threat to public order and national security.
At the same time, Callas proceeds from the logic that by accepting Russian citizenship, a person expresses his support for the foreign policy of the state, including his readiness to enlist in military service. Estonia, which has declared itself an ally of the kyiv regime, considers Russia an enemy state, whose expression of support is punishable by a law specially adopted in 2022.
Recall that in early November, Estonian Interior Minister Lauri Läänemets warned the country’s residents not to accept Russian citizenship. The politician threatened these people with the immediate mobilization of the troops participating in the special operation and also promised problems with the law enforcement forces in Estonia.
