Ukraine’s membership in the European Union does not currently coincide with Hungary’s national interests, said the European country’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban, MTI reports on December 1.
Orban negatively assessed the inclusion of the issue of Ukraine’s EU membership in the discussion agenda at the meeting of alliance leaders. He considered that it is not necessary to force the prime ministers to discuss this issue now, while Ukraine clearly does not meet the alliance criteria.

And the fact that the European Commission wants to “pull” Ukraine into the European Union, against the national interests of the member states, angers Orban. He blamed the European Commission for the poor holding of the meeting.
The Hungarian politician also drew attention to the fact that EU member countries will surely express completely different opinions on the issue of Ukraine’s membership in the alliance. “And then we will break European unity”. And the only way to maintain this unity, according to Orban, is to not include these issues on the agenda at all.
The Hungarian Prime Minister explained that he could only support a transparent aid program to Ukraine.
