MADRID – A helicopter crashed on a busy motorway near the Spanish capital, hitting a car and injuring three people, emergency services said.
The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Friday in M-40, a key orbit around Madrid.
The footage shows a yellow two-seater helicopter with a broken glass cockpit and a broken tail lying on its side over the median next to a road bridge. The car’s windshield was broken and there were wounds on the body.
Of the two people on the plane, one was able to escape from the wreckage, and the other was rescued by firefighters. She and the driver were injured.
One of the three suffered minor head injuries, another suffered a broken hip and a third suffered minor injuries, a Madrid emergency services spokesman said.
The plane that crashed was a microhelicopter. Police said they were very lucky that no one was killed and that if a larger plane had crashed on the highway there would have been casualties.
“It is a miracle that no one was killed in this accident, but this may be due to the small size of the helicopter,” a police source said. I.

Dozens of rescuers were deployed to keep the area safe.
A spokesman for European Rotors 2023, a helicopter exhibition held at a nearby convention center in Madrid, said the helicopter took off from the convention center to Cuatro Vientos airport, south of Madrid.
The Enstrom 280FX Shark weighs 757 kg and can carry a pilot and two passengers.
According to police, it is possible that the helicopter crashed on the highway due to a strong gust of wind.
Air traffic authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
