A strong earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale was recorded off the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Local authorities issued a tsunami warning, which was later lifted by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
“Based on all available information, it has been concluded that there is a tsunami threat caused by this earthquake,” the US service said.
The earthquake occurred at 22:37 local time (14:37 in Lisbon) and was measured at a depth of 32 kilometers.
“Remain vigilant and be careful if you are near the sea,” the organization advised residents of the region, which recorded deviations from normal tides of 1 to 8 centimeters on the eastern coast of Mindanao.
