Porto City Council will launch another income support program, Porto Solidário, next week after a revision of the rules will raise 900 thousand euros, it was announced this Monday.
The councilor responsible for urbanism in the Porto City Council, Pedro Baganha, explained this Monday to the municipal executive that the transformation of Porto Solidario into a “complementary program” to the public program allowed the collection of “sufficient funds to launch a new edition” of the income support program and bank benefits without causing harm to current beneficiaries.
According to the adviser, this publication is related to this year’s budget, and new versions of the program will be launched next year with the new budget.
The second edition of this year’s program – the 12th edition since its inception – will have a budget of 900 thousand euros and will be launched next week.
Applications open on December 12 and can be submitted through the Domus Social website. Information about the program rules, namely the maximum allowable income and required documents, will also be available on the municipal company’s website.
In May, the Porto Chamber changed the rules of the program so that the support could be in addition to government support for rent payments under the Mais Habitação program.
The incompatibility of these two forms of support prompted the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, to send a letter to the housing minister on April 3, declaring that Porto Solidario would “extinct” if government measures were adopted.
On the same day, the Ministry of Housing informed Lusa that it was coordinating with the Porto City Council to harmonize the income support measure announced by the government and the municipal intervention program.
