The Brazilian President decided not to travel to Davos while the investigation into the Bolsonarist violence in Brasilia is ongoing, and sent Finance Minister Fernando Haddad and Environment Minister Marina Silva to the forum.
“Despite the recent terrible events in Brazil, we will have a strong Brazilian ministerial delegation led by the Minister of Finance,” said Borge Brende, President of the Davos Forum.
For its part, the Brazilian Finance Ministry stressed that after the brutal events that took place in Brasilia, when groups of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro destroyed and invaded public buildings, the South American country will generate more interest in Davos, where Brazil intends to show that the failed coup attempt January 8 “has already become history” and the government will remain focused on economic recovery.
Apart from Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alcmin, who will remain in Brazil forming his team at the Ministry of Development, Industry and Trade, will not attend as originally planned.
The Brazilian government is set to restart its international agenda for Lula da Silva next week with a first trip to Argentina, where he will meet Argentine President Alberto Fernandez on January 23.
In February, it is planned to visit the White House, and in April – Portugal. China is another country where the Brazilian head of state plans to travel in the first half of this year.
