The Spanish National Police, in collaboration with the Guardia Civil, dismantled a criminal organization involved in sex trafficking in Madrid. The 12 women, one of whom has mental retardation, were freed from the basement in inhumane conditions, authorities said.
According to DiaryThe victims were brought from South American countries with the promise of work and better living conditions. But once they entered Spain, the women were told they had a debt to the organization that needed to be paid off through sex work.
Subject to strict control, the victims lived in unsanitary and crowded conditions in a windowless basement. They had to pay one hundred euros for their stay in space, in addition to expenses related to food, clothing and cosmetics.
Women were required to be available 24 hours a day and work at least eight hours. They were forced to provide two sexual services to the same client and perform oral sex without a condom.
The investigation found that participants in the scheme had accumulated €1,244,767.49 from crimes. Authorities detained 11 people in Madrid and one in Arrecife.
Members of the organization are of South American origin and own several properties in Spain, including property used as a brothel.
