A decree has been published reducing tolls on the old SCUT

The decree regulating the reduction of tolls on several sections and subsections of the former SCUT was published this Monday in the newspaper Diário da República and comes into force on January 1st.

“This decree regulates the reduction regime applicable to the amount of tolls collected from users on the sections and subsections specified in Decree-Law No. 111/2011 of November 28, as well as on sections and subsections of the 4 – Maran highways. tunnel, A 4 – Vila Real Braganza (Quintanilla), A 13 – Atalaya (A 23) – Coimbra Sul and A 13-1,” the document says.

The same resolution also “redefines the regime for regulating toll rates applicable to vehicles of classes 2, 3 and 4 used for the road transport of goods and passengers for hire or for public purposes when driving on the mentioned sections and subsections. , in view of the adopted reduction in toll rates, as well as in order to maintain the global benefits currently in place.”

Territorial Cohesion Minister Ana Abruñosa said on Friday that the diploma for the reduction of tolls for former SCUTs was “being finalized” and should be published quickly to take effect in early 2024.

“We are closing the resolution. Therefore, the decree is about to be closed, and we really wanted to publish it as soon as possible, because it is the decree that decides everything so that from January 2024 we can implement a reduction in tolls on highways in the Interior and the Algarve,” the minister said during a hearing in parliament on the proposed government budget 2024 (OE2024).

Ana Abruñosa admitted that she has always been actively involved politically in the reduction of tolls, which for passenger cars will be 30% compared to today’s prices.

The price reduction will be more noticeable in the Maran Tunnel and in the Pinhala hinterland, routes that “did not benefit from the 50 percent reduction made in 2011 and will now have the same conditions as the routes affected by this measure”, – he said. added.

The minister emphasized that, given the demands of decarbonization, the reduction in prices on these highways is accompanied by public transport programs.

“The preliminary data we already have on incentivizing more public transport shows that funding for inter-municipal communities will increase by 34%,” he said.
