On Tuesday, Spanish police seized 7.5 tons of cocaine hidden inside frozen tuna in the port of Vigo. The drug, originating from South America, was going to be distributed throughout Europe.
In terms of quantity, it was the largest drug seizure in the history of Galicia, which has a vast coastline and has been used for drug smuggling for decades, according to authorities.
During the second operation, police also discovered 3.5 tons of cocaine hidden in containers in the port of Valencia.
20 people belonging to two criminal organizations of Balkan origin were arrested. Authorities say the operation dealt a “major blow” to one of the most powerful drug distribution networks operating in Europe.
