Russia has allocated the equivalent of 342 million euros for the March presidential elections in which Vladimir Putin is running again, Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) said this Wednesday.
The Russian presidential election, scheduled for March 17, 2024, was called by the Senate on December 7.
The next day, Putin announced his decision to run for re-election during an awards ceremony for soldiers who served in the war in Ukraine.
Since the outbreak of the SARS Cov2 pandemic in 2020, voting in almost all elections in the country has lasted several days, a procedure justified by public health measures but which the opposition says has contributed to fraud.
In the next presidential elections, Russian voters will be able to vote for three days, from March 15 to 17, the Central Election Commission reported.
Opposition to the Kremlin argues that allowing voting within 72 hours encourages pro-government fraud and makes voting control and electronic voting difficult.
CEC Chair Ela Pamfilova said Moscow would invite foreign observers, although the presence of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which has always criticized Russian institutions, was ruled out.
