The US Supreme Court said this Wednesday it will hear an appeal that could overturn hundreds of charges stemming from the January 2021 invasion of the Capitol, particularly against former President Donald Trump.
The justices will review an appeal ruling that revived charges against three accused of obstructing a judicial investigation as Trump supporters tried to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, which defeated the outgoing president.
It is one of four charges brought against Trump in the case by special counsel Jack Smith, who accuses the former president and now Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential primary of conspiring to overturn his election defeat.
