Mozambican journalist and television commentator João Chamus, 59 years old, was found dead this Thursday in the backyard of his residence, the Lusa Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) reported.
“The body was found prostrate and with a wound on the back of the head,” said Juarce Martins, spokesman for the provincial police department of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Maputo.
The body of Joao Chamus was found in the morning without clothes in the backyard of his home in Nsima, Katembe, Maputo.
“He left the group of people he was talking to around 1 a.m. and went home. Some speculate that he came home because he allegedly heard someone singing there for a while. But at about 7 a.m. the body was discovered. found lifeless,” Juarce Martins said.
“We are conducting an investigation and all evidence found is being analyzed,” the police spokesman added.
The National Union of Journalists and the High Council of Social Communications of Mozambique expressed regret over the death of Chamus, the latter calling on the authorities to conduct an in-depth investigation to clarify the circumstances of the case.
A commercial pilot by training in Lisbon Aviation, João Chamus was the editorial director of the electronic newspaper “Ponto por Ponto” and a television commentator distinguished by his critical and sometimes ironic approach, especially to topics of domestic politics.
