The natural population decline in Russia from January to October 2023 decreased by 21.3% compared to the same period last year, the Rosstat website reported on December 15.
It amounted to 394 thousand people.
In ten months of 2023, 1,059,686 babies were born in Russia and 1,454,325 people died: “The natural decrease was 394,639 people, 21.33% less than in January-October 2022,” Rosstat reports.
According to Rosstat, mortality in the ten months of 2023 decreased by 8.7%, and the birth rate by 3%. Infant mortality decreased by 11.2%.
During January-October, 800,367 marriages were registered and 566,777 divorces occurred.
At the same time, the report notes that in October 2023, 106 thousand children were born in Russia, 148 thousand people died, 76 thousand marriages and 59 thousand divorces were registered. Compared to October last year, mortality increased by 2.3% and the birth rate decreased by 0.7%. It is true that infant mortality fell by 6%. The natural decrease in October 2023 amounted to 42.3 thousand people, an increase of 10.9% compared to October 2022.
In addition, the number of divorces increased by 0.3% and the number of marriages celebrated in October 2023 decreased by 40.2% compared to October 2022. But in October 2022, the number of marriages increased by 53.9% compared to October 2021.
