The first day of the European Council ended this Friday in Brussels without an agreement on revising the EU’s long-term budget, which includes financial support for Ukraine, with a new summit scheduled for early 2024.
After a day of intense negotiations that began at 10:00 (9:00 in Lisbon) on Thursday and ended at 2:30 (1:30 in Lisbon) this Friday, heads of government and EU states made no agreement on the revision of the Multiannual Financial program (MFF) for 2024-2027 and a financial reserve of 50 billion euros to support the reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine, European sources told Lusa.
The same community sources noted that Portugal’s proposal to make an offer to only the 26 EU member states (sharing the burden between them) was on the table as part of the negotiating framework, which was clarified this evening given the blockade of Hungary, but there was no solution. legal basis to support it.
