Evora’s nomination for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2027 (together with Liepaja in Latvia) will cost approximately 49 million euros. This amount consists of 15 million coming from the Ministry of Culture through the Directorate of Cultural Strategy, Planning and Evaluation (GEPAC), plus 10 million from European funds, four million from tourism, five million for the surrounding areas and 15 million signed by the municipality and partners.
Regarding, in particular, the financing of the Ministry of Culture, approved by the Council of Ministers this Thursday, the first tranche of two million will be transferred in 2024, and the rest until 2027. The government already approved 15 days ago: also in the Council of Ministers, the creation of an association responsible for the cultural program of the 2027 European Capital of Culture Évora. The city, we recall, was chosen from four finalists, which also included Ponta Delgada, Aveiro and Braga.
