This Monday, four Portuguese teams will face their rivals in the next round of European competition in a double draw with hidden traps.
Luck begins to dictate from 11 am. Unseeded, Porto will face one of the group stage winners in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League. Barcelona are not a chance (Porta and the Catalans were in the same group), but there are other sharks to avoid. Among the seven hypotheses (see infographic), Dortmund and Real Sociedad (Benfica eliminated) are theoretically the most favorable for the Dragons. The first legs will take place on February 13, 14, 20 and 21, with the return matches on March 5, 6, 13 and 14.
The play-off draw for reaching the 1/8 finals of the Europa League will begin at 12:00. Sporting is in the first pot (playing away first and then at home), and its most dangerous opponent will be the Italian Milan. Feyenoord or Galatasaray compete in the second tier. Pot 2 of the Champions League teams, who will face Europa League group runners-up Benfica and Braga, also features coach Jose Mourinho’s Italian side Roma as the biggest threat. The playoff matches will take place on February 15 and 22.
Porto and Benfica at the 2025 World Cup
Porto and Benfica will compete at the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States, for the first time in the new 32-team format. Yesterday, FIFA announced that the Dragons and Eagles were among Europe’s 12 representatives. The Reds benefit from the fact that each country can only have two teams.
