Several fans were injured this Monday in clashes outside the José Alvalade stadium in Lisbon before the derby between Sporting and Porto. Seven fans were found to be in possession of pyrotechnic devices.
One injured fan appears bloodied and says they were “just having fun” and that PSP decided to intervene with a raid and “unjustified police violence.” He also shows several rubber bullets that were shot at him.
Some police knocked over chairs and tables at a cafe near the stadium, according to a report from a member of the public who said he heard rubber bullets being fired. A fan wearing a Sporting jersey also complains about the lack of help from firefighters.
The PSP responded to the allegations and assured that it was the fans who started the clashes with the police and that intervention was necessary, but it was done in a “preventive manner.”
