A baby died in Gaya late this Thursday morning after the mother, a 16-year-old underage, gave birth alone in a bathtub. The young woman will hide her pregnancy from her family.
Aguda firefighters received a warning about an incident involving cardiac and respiratory arrest in a child in Canidelo. When investigators arrived at the scene, the newborn was already dead.
It was the girl’s screams that alerted her aunt, and that is how the request for help from the Aguda firemen was made in connection with the Canidelo incident.
The cause of death of the newborn is being investigated by the Judicial Police of Porto. Aguda firefighters transported a young woman, escorted by a VMER team, to a hospital in Vila Nova de Gaia.
The baby’s body was also taken to the hospital ward and then transferred to the Forensic Institute in Porto. An autopsy will be essential in establishing the cause of death and determining whether the mother is criminally responsible.
