This Thursday, the Brazilian government managed to rescue another 33 people who were stuck in the Gaza Strip and who had already crossed the Rafah border into Egypt. A Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft also left Rio de Janeiro and headed to Cairo, the capital of Egypt, to repatriate the group to Brazil.
This is the third group of native Brazilians, dual Brazilians and Palestinian family members of Brazilians that the Brasilia government has managed to repatriate since mid-November. Then, a little more than a month after the start of the military confrontation between Israel and the extremist group Hamas, which controlled the Gaza Strip and launched brutal attacks on Israeli territory on October 7 that killed 1,400 people, Brazil rescued the first group of 32 people, and two weeks ago managed to repatriate the second , this time 48 people.
Of the 33 people rescued this Thursday, Israel prevented 16 from leaving the Gaza Strip as part of a group repatriated two weeks ago, without any explanation or apparent reason. In total, Israel banned 24 Brazilians or members of their families from crossing the Rafah crossing into Egypt at that time, but after intense negotiations by Brazilian diplomats, 16 were finally allowed to leave the enclave, where, however, another eight continue to be banned from travel, again without any explanations from the government led by Benjamin Netanyahu.
According to the Brazilian authorities, the 33 people rescued this Thursday will remain in a hotel in Cairo until the end of Friday in order to be properly fed after two and a half months of various hardships and receive medical care, and they are expected to arrive in Brazil. on Saturday. On a plane sent to Cairo to repatriate the group, the Brazilian government sent six tons of aid, namely water purification kits and solar energy, to be delivered to international aid organizations still working in Gaza.
