The Cape Verdean government will co-sponsor a draft resolution to increase and monitor resources for humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip, the government announced this Friday.
In the note, the Cape Verdean government explained that the project, entitled “Expanding and Monitoring Aid to Gaza” [aumentando e monitorizando a ajuda à Faixa de Gaza]is still being discussed in the Security Council of the United Nations General Assembly (UN).
The project presented by the United Arab Emirates “at its core aims to direct and implement necessary assistance to the population in strict compliance with international humanitarian law, in the light of the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols.”
The government also added that it is “a balanced project that does not blame parties to the conflict, but rather recognizes the efforts being made by Israel, Egypt and various UN agencies. The government hopes that members of the Security Council will come to a compromise.” agreement on the text so that it can be voted on unanimously.”
Israel began intensive strikes and airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on October 7, when Hamas militants left the Gaza Strip and attacked Israeli villages and military posts, killing about 1,400 people and taking 240 hostages.
Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip has already killed more than 8,500 people, according to the Hamas government.
Israeli forces have also stepped up their operations in the West Bank, occupied since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
