Fenprof demands the legalization of thousands of teachers without sick leave and social support

The National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) protested this Friday to the Ministry of Labor, demanding the re-registration in the Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) of thousands of teachers who do not have sick leave or social support.

In July this year, the CGA decided that workers could apply to transfer from the Social Security (SS) system to the CGA, but many teachers “have a pending process” and have had their rights suspended, Fenprof general secretary Mario Nogueira told Lusa.

“In the same school there are very different cases: people who managed to change without any problems, others who are still waiting for confirmation of the transfer process, and some who remained in the SS,” he explained.

Mario Nogueira told the story of a teacher from Lamego who was now told that she “needs to pay back more than four thousand euros.”

The teacher had been ill since the beginning of the school year, and since the school made discounts on the CGA, “nothing indicated that there was any problem,” but now the services said that she was still registered with the SS and therefore “should return the difference , which is about a thousand euros per month.”

There are also cases where teachers, while on sick leave, presented medical certificates, and after changing the system, “they were asked for a new certificate, since the one that was issued earlier was not valid,” criticized Mario Nogueira, explaining that the services recognize that “The certificate confirms the disease, but does not comply with the rules and therefore has no value.”

These are the cases that Fenprof wants to resolve and therefore returned this Friday to the Ministry of Labor and managed to set up a meeting with the State Secretary of Social Security for January 5, said Mário Nogueira.

In addition, Fenprof also sent a request this Friday afternoon to the CGA “to justify the decision to suspend or change the guidance given to schools,” said Mario Nogueira, adding that the union’s lawyers believe that we are faced with a case of “abuse of rights.” “.

Fenprof was one of the unions that filed the most cases in court so that teachers could return to the CGA, since it offers better conditions than the SS, and the court ruled in favor of the teachers.
