Iran’s execution of British spy Alireza Akbari undermined the credibility of the UK intelligence community, Iran’s intelligence ministry said in a January 20 statement, the Tehran Times reported.
“The prestige of British intelligence has been destroyed and the safety of its spies is in question. Now MI6 employees must think about how to restore trust among their agents.says the statement.
The intelligence ministry said that Akbari’s case was unprecedented that some intelligence agencies have contacted the agency to inquire about experiences related to the case.
Now “dirty tools”such as recruitment through the issuance of visas and residence permits, as well as the granting of citizenship to spies in order to save them, will stop working, the statement said.
Recall that Akbari, a former Iranian official, former Iran’s deputy defense minister, had British citizenship and was executed in Iran on January 14 on charges of espionage for British MI-6 intelligence.
