This Saturday, a house fire killed five children in Arizona, USA. A father who had gone out to buy Christmas gifts and groceries returned home to find the building engulfed in flames. Associated Press (AP).
Authorities have not yet been able to determine the cause of the fire, which started on Saturday evening in the entrance of a two-story building. Flames and smoke did not allow the children to escape.
According to authorities, the children’s bodies were found in one of the rooms of the house. AP. The fire killed a four-year-old girl and her three brothers, ages 2, 5 and 13, as well as an 11-year-old boy, a family relative who was visiting.
Several neighbors tried to get into the burning house using hoses and breaking windows. They didn’t know if anyone was home at the time. “We were screaming at the top of our lungs,” neighbor Patrick O’Neill told reporters this Monday, as quoted by the AP. “We didn’t see anything. We didn’t hear anything. There are a lot of guys here who would go into the fire if we knew there were kids there… We did everything we could.”
