A couple in Germany had sex at the altar of a 15th-century church, BILD reported on December 20.
This happened in 2022, but the crime was revealed only after the 39-year-old was caught for fraud. They confiscated his phone, in which they found a video showing the participation of him and his 26-year-old wife in the desecration.
The woman was convicted of violating freedom of religion and fined 2.5 thousand euros. Her husband faces up to several years in prison on charges of fraud and assault.
The desecrated altar of the church will be relit. The rite, which must be performed by the diocesan bishop, will require sprinkling the altar itself and the walls of the church with holy water. This process has not yet been organized.
