At least one man was killed and one woman was injured Saturday in a shooting at a shopping center in Ocala, Florida.
Police received several calls warning of shots fired at the Paddock Mall, Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken explained at a news conference broadcast on CNN, adding that the calls described an “active shooter” scenario to which authorities responded with a “heavy police presence.” .
“Officers immediately entered the mall and discovered that this was not an active shooter,” Balken said, explaining that officers described the incident as a planned act of violence.
People were removed from the scene, there was no threat, police said on the social network Facebook.
The police chief confirmed that an adult man was found dead from gunshot wounds at the mall and added that a woman was shot in the leg and had to be taken to the hospital.
Police are still searching for the suspect.
