The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has detained a ship with 90,000 liters of contraband fuel and five smugglers in the waters of the Persian Gulf, Mojtaba Gahramani, head of the judicial department of Iran’s southern province of Hormozgan, said in January. 21, the Mehr news agency reported.
Gahramani said that the IRGC Navy units of the 4th naval district in the Persian Gulf worked in accordance with the decision of the judicial authorities of the Parsa region of Hormozgan province. The military managed to seize a ship with smuggled fuel after it was discovered.
Five members of the ship’s crew arrested by IRGC Marines have been handed over to judicial authorities, the official said. The seized fuel was delivered to the Petroleum Product Distribution Company, he added.
Recall that on January 21, an IRGC Navy patrol in the Gulf of Oman intercepted a ton of opium.
A few years ago, the IRGC Navy, in addition to its main combat missions, was given the task of countering the smuggling of goods, fuel and drug trafficking.
