The CGT, the country’s main union, and the ATE, the largest union of public sector workers, will mobilize this Wednesday against the decree of necessity and urgency announced last week by President Milei.
He Government of Argentina will not renew around 5,000 public contracts next year and will review more than a million social plans to detect irregularities, as reported this Tuesday by the presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni.
Adorni has also announced that public contracts signed up in 2023 that end on December 31 will not be renewed in 2024, while the rest will enter a 90-day review process.
In a press conference at the Casa Rosada, the spokesperson specified that this measure will affect all temporary employees of the federal Administration and those of various public entities in Argentina, and that only workers in state companies and companies will be excluded.
Regarding social plans, the Argentine Executive will begin the audit of more than one million social plans and predicts, based on calculations from judicial investigations, that 160,000 beneficiaries could be receiving this aid in an “irregular” manner.
Unions mobilize this Wednesday
The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) of Argentina, the country’s main union, and the State Workers Association (ATE)the largest union of public sector workers, will mobilize this Wednesday against the decree of necessity and urgency (DNU) announced last week by the president of Argentina, Javier Mileiby which numerous laws and regulations are eliminated to deregulate the economy and allow the privatization of public companies.
The public workers union has joined the mobilization called since last Friday by the CGT, once it has been published in the Official Gazette that the Government is going to lay off 7,000 public administration workers.
This has been the trigger for them to call for “a new national day of struggle” in defense of public workers and against the attack “of such magnitude” on labor rights.
The main mobilization is planned in the city of Buenos Aires, at the same time that strikes and demonstrations will take place in the rest of the provinces of Argentina.
