The number of asylum applications in the Netherlands has risen to almost 50,000 in 2023, a milestone that can be reached in the last week of the year, the NL Times reported on December 28.
More applications were submitted than last year, according to weekly data from the Ministry of Justice and Security. In just 51 weeks of 2023, approximately 49,600 claims were filed. Last year, approximately 48,600 refugees arrived in the Netherlands in 52 weeks.
Around 1,200 people applied for asylum last week. During the same week last year, the Netherlands registered around 600 asylum seekers.
For the twelfth consecutive week, capital inflows were higher than the same week last year. More than 15,000 applications were submitted in those 12 weeks, compared to almost 12,000 in the same period the previous year.
