Train services on the Cuamba-Moatize section in Niassa province in northern Mozambique resumed this Thursday after a four-day blockage due to a freight train derailment.
The appeal was resumed this Thursday at around 11:00 (9:00 am Lisbon time), Nacala Logistics, which operates the railway lines in northern Mozambique, said in a message sent to the media.
The railway was blocked on Monday after a train carrying 36 cars loaded with coal derailed in the Mekanhelas area.
Nacala Logistics said an investigation to determine the probable cause of the train crash was still ongoing, but said there were no reports of injuries or damage to the local population.
“Following the incident, Nacala Logistics mobilized several technical and operational teams to restore safe traffic on the road as quickly as possible,” the company adds.
The nearly 900-kilometre line, known as the Northern Logistics Corridor, connects coal mines in Tete province to the Indian Ocean port of Nacala, from where exports are carried out mainly to Asia.
