Members of an Islamic group kidnapped an Israeli-American couple living in Kibbutz Nir Oz during a hike. That same day, Judy managed to call a kibbutz resident and report that they had both received gunshot wounds. Since then they have not shown any signs of life.
The couple had four children and seven grandchildren. Gadi worked as a cook in the kibbutz cafeteria, and Judy taught English. They have lived on the kibbutz since 1994.
Israel began intensive strikes and airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on October 7, after Hamas militants broke out of the Gaza Strip and attacked Israeli villages and military posts, killing about 1,400 people and taking 240 hostages.
