Turkish authorities have detained 32 people suspected of links to the extremist group Islamic State (IS), which is said to be planning attacks on synagogues and churches as well as the Iraqi embassy, a Turkish state agency said on Friday.
The suspects, including three suspected top IS militants, were detained in early morning raids in nine Turkish provinces, Anadolu Agency said, citing security sources it did not name.
They were detained during a joint operation between intelligence services and police, Anadolu reports, citing the North American agency AP.
The arrests came a week after police caught 304 suspected IS militants in raids across Turkey in what appeared to be a security operation related to New Year celebrations.
The Islamic State group has carried out a series of deadly attacks in Turkey, including the Jan. 1, 2017, Istanbul nightclub shooting that killed 39 people during New Year’s celebrations.
