The accused was arrested last Wednesday following an investigation carried out on December 19 by the Criminal Investigation Department of PSP Aveiro on suspicion of kidnapping and robbery.
The suspect kidnapped the 63-year-old victim, gagging and tying her in the trunk of a car while traveling between Fatima and Aveiro. The man used the woman’s bank card to withdraw €400, fill up the car and make purchases worth around €1,500.
The victim was then dumped in Verdemillo, Aveiro, next to an empty building. The woman managed to untie herself and turn to residents for help. The victim’s car was later found abandoned in Figueira da Foz.
The accused is also suspected of robbing a woman in Xupala, Coimbra, in early December. In this case, the victim was also gagged, tied hand and foot, and abandoned in the Chupal National Forest. The suspect then forced the victim to give up his MB way payment method credentials. He managed to withdraw 400 euros from an ATM. On the same day, the accused robbed a gas station store in Aveiro, next to the university campus.
The PSP suspects that the accused has committed crimes of the same type in the areas of Aveiro, Coimbra and Leiria in recent months. A man from the Aveiro region has already served a 16-year prison sentence for theft.
