Russian public television channel RT France has ceased operations due to the blocking of its accounts, editor-in-chief Ksenia Fedorova said on Saturday.
“The channel’s accounts have been blocked at the request of the General Directorate of the Treasury of the French Ministry of Economics and Finance,” Fedorova said this Saturday in a message published on the social network Twitter, adding that the channel “cannot continue its activities.” “.
The Russian TV channel’s Internet portal also released a statement claiming that these measures make it impossible to function and stressing that 123 French workers have lost their jobs, 77 of whom are journalists with a professional license.
“After five years of stubborn struggle, the authorities have achieved their goal of shutting down RT France,” the channel said in a statement.
“The closure of RT France and the deafening silence of other French media and journalists is just the first of a series of very dangerous steps, because after our channel they will follow other media,” the channel adds.
Last Thursday, the Le Monde newspaper reported that RT France accounts had been blocked, and the Russian Foreign Ministry announced retaliatory measures against French media in Russia.
Russian public television channel RT and news agency Sputnik were banned from broadcasting in the European Union in March 2022 following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the remedies they filed were not taken into account.
