North American author Colleen Hoover is the most widely read author in Portugal, where most readers prefer romance, mystery, thriller and fantasy books. This is the conclusion reached by the online bookstore Wook, which analyzed book consumption habits this year and compiled a list of the most beloved writers in Portugal.
In terms of topics, titles for children and young people are the second most popular in Portuguese, followed by self-help, science and humanities, and comics.
As for the best-selling books in English at this bookstore, Icebreaker, a love story by Hannah Grace, took the top spot in 2023. A “TikTok sensation” as advertised.
Frida McFadden, whose titles “A Criada” and “O Segredo da Criada” were respectively the best-selling book in Portuguese and the fifth most popular book this year, is the second author on the list of preferences, followed by Ana Huang, Sarah J Maas and Raoul Mignalma.
