The Supreme Council of the Medical Association has overturned the six-month suspension from medical practice imposed almost 3 years ago on anesthesiologist Margarida Oliveira. Recall that she was one of the founders of the Doctors for Truth movement, which held several public demonstrations against the Covid-19 vaccination plan.
Margarida Oliveira was convicted by the Southern Regional Disciplinary Council of the Medical Association, a decision made in February 2021. The disciplinary process arose following several complaints made against the doctor, which the Medical Association consolidated into a single disciplinary process. This, according to the then-senior corps of doctors, was about “statements, publications on the Internet and doctor’s recommendations that could harm public health during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Following the then-imposed six-month suspension, Margarida Oliveira filed several appeals. The decision taken by the Supreme Council of the Order of Physicians, which has already been communicated to the doctor, was taken on the basis of Law 38-A/2023 of August 2, which amnesties crimes related to the visit of Pope Francis to Portugal for the purpose of celebrating World Youth Day.
However, the Doctors for Truth movement was dissolved due to disciplinary action against several of its leaders.
