Israeli hostage Sahar Baruch was killed in December during a rescue attempt by Israeli special forces in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military said this Wednesday, according to a report Reuters.
Hamas said on December 8 that the hostage, named Sa’ar Baruch, was killed during the rescue attempt.
“It is currently impossible to determine the circumstances of Sahar’s death, and it is unknown whether he was killed by Hamas militants or killed by fire from our forces,” the army statement said.
Baruch was among 240 hostages taken by Hamas militants when they invaded southern Israel on October 7.
At least 123 hostages remain in Gaza, of whom at least 23 have been declared dead by Israeli authorities.
