PCP will propose the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the privatization of ANA

The PKP secretary general said this Saturday that after the legislative elections on March 10, he will propose the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the privatization of ANA.

“At the political level, the PCP assumes from now on, and from first hand, that after the elections of March 10, it will propose the creation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the privatization of ANA and will put forward initiatives to restore public control over this company,” Paulo Raimundo said at a rally in Maia, in the district Porto.

This intention comes after the Court of Auditors (TdC) concluded that the privatization of ANA, which occurred in 2013, failed to protect the public interest due to failure to comply with its objectives, such as minimizing the government’s exposure to execution risks.

The sale of 100% of the capital of ANA Aeroportos à Vinci was initiated in 2012 and completed in 2013 by the PSD/CDS-PP government led by Pedro Passos Coelho, as part of a privatization package that also included CTT, REN and TAP. in the latter case, it was later partially repealed by the next PS government (with parliamentary support of PCP, BE and PEV) led by António Costa.

At the rally, Paulo Raimundo stressed that in nine years, ANA’s owners earned 1,400 million euros, which is more than they paid for the company.

“What’s worse, if nothing is done before 2062, this multinational corporation will pocket more than 20 billion euros to its shareholders, 20 billion that will be used to build airports, schools, hospitals and which, instead of staying in the country, will increase bank account of several people,” he added.

Speaking of “shame, crime and an attack on national resources,” the communist believed that if the privatization of airports was a scandal, then an even greater scandal would be the fact that this “attack on the country” would continue until 2062.

Therefore, he argued, it was now necessary to put an end to “disastrous privatization”, since the Portuguese state had not only the right, but also the obligation to act to return to the country what should never have been transferred into the hands of another state. multinational.
