Golden State Warriors basketball player Draymond Green returned to practice on Sunday, a day after the North American Basketball League (NBA) announced the end of its suspension due to the attack.
Green, 33, was suspended indefinitely after attacking the Phoenix Suns’ Jusuf Nurkic. The suspension lasted 24 days, causing the player to miss 12 Warriors matches.
The NBA said Saturday that Green “has demonstrated his commitment to bringing his conduct into line with the standards expected of players” in the world’s most popular basketball league.
The NBA statement noted that Green met with an adviser during his suspension and also held several joint meetings with representatives of the league and the Warriors.
Green was on the bench when the Warriors hosted the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night and was part of the game’s halftime talk.
Coach Steve Kerr said he wasn’t sure when Green would be ready to return to action.
“I have no idea when that will happen,” Kerr admitted.
On December 11, Green violently hit Jusuf Nurkic and was immediately ejected by the referees in the Warriors’ 119–116 loss to the Suns.
The suspension “takes into account Green’s history of unsportsmanlike conduct,” the NBA said in a Dec. 13 statement, adding that the player had to “comply with certain conditions imposed by the NBA in order to return to play.”
Green, a four-time NBA champion with the Warriors, had already been suspended for five games in November for shaking the neck of France’s Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The two-time U.S. Olympic champion at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 has already been suspended for stomping on Domantas Sabonis, hitting a teammate in practice and after an altercation with LeBron James in the 2016 Finals.
