Years after Jeffrey Epstein’s death, the case continues to stir controversy and reveal new contours. The documents released Thursday revealed the names of potential witnesses, sexual assault victims and friends of the tycoon. England’s Prince Andrew and former US presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump are mentioned.
Virginia Giuffre, 40, testified in 2016. An American woman said she was abused by Prince Andrew and the second member of the British royal family. The unknown prince communicated in a “foreign language” but “spoke good English,” he said under oath.
The victim’s version of events is that Jeffrey Epstein treated her as a sex slave as a teenager and rented her out to friends in positions of power. England’s Prince Andrew has always denied the accusations of Virginia Giuffre, with whom he reached an agreement in 2022 in a sexual assault case without admitting responsibility, paying almost 14 million euros.
Epstein case
In 2005, Florida police arrested Jeffrey Epstein on suspicion of paying a 14-year-old girl for sex. Dozens of other minors described similar abuses, but in 2008 prosecutors allowed the tycoon to plead guilty to the single-victim charge. The convict served 13 months under the freedom to work program.
As more details and allegations emerged in July 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was arrested. A month later he was found dead at the age of 66 in his cell while awaiting trial. The death was ruled a suicide.
