CNID – The Association of Sports Journalists expressed this Wednesday its solidarity with the workers of the newspaper O Jogo and the rest of the media workers of the Global Media Group, “who are fighting for wages, but above all for the future,” as stated in a statement.
The Sports Writers Association says the media has always had “economic and financial health, as well as a significant social impact.”
“On this day, when the group’s workers go on a 24-hour strike, and many other journalists express solidarity with this fight by holding an hour-long strike at their workplaces, the CNID – Association of Sports Journalists calls for always defending journalism, which is a pillar of democracy. We are all aware that changes need to be made, but they cannot jeopardize the foundation of this large group of media – journalism. Which, remember, can only be done with the help of journalists,” they say.
Global Media Group workers are on a 24-hour strike this Wednesday to protest delayed wages and benefits. Journalists from other media outlets joined the strike in solidarity.
