Lama Khater, 47, was among thousands of Palestinians detained by the Israel Defense Forces at the start of the war on October 7. She was released in November under an agreement between the Islamist group and Israel, but has painful memories of her time in prison.
The woman has five children and is a journalist who has covered numerous moments of conflict in the Middle East. A Al-Jazzera, says she saw a house in the Israeli city of Hebron invaded on October 7, the day of her arrest. As a result, she was transported from one detention center to another, and she did not know what she was accused of or what would happen to her next.
Lama Khater says he has been the target of several threats, including rape, death and deportation to Gaza.
The Palestinian woman spent a period of imprisonment in a small and very dirty cell with six other women in Hasharon prison. The space was so small that prisoners had to take turns sitting and sleeping.
After Hasharon, she was transferred to Damon prison in northern Israel, where she saw other prisoners being beaten.
At another prison where she was transferred, the woman says access to food was very limited, there were no sanitary pads and the cells were very cold.
