Italian figure skaters Lucrezia Beccari and Matteo Guarise were proclaimed European figure skating champions on January 11.
The pair of athletes won the tournament with a score of 199.19 points. The skaters performed their free skate with 132.14 points.
The silver went to athletes from Georgia. Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava received 196.14 points from the referees over two days of competition. Of them, they scored 124.84 points for the free program.
The bronze medal was won by Rebecca Gilardi and Filippo Ambrosini, also representing Italy. They received 195.68 points for completing two programs.
The championship takes place in Lithuania. A total of 15 sports couples competed in the tournament.
In 2022, Russian figure skaters Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov became European champions with a score of 239.82 points. They received the highest score in the world in their free skate, 157.46 points. None of the couples have been able to update this record yet.
The 2023 European Championship was won by Italians Sara Conti and Niccolo Macchii.
Let us remember that since March 2022, Russian figure skaters have not competed in international competitions. This decision was made by the International Skating Union. The reason for this was a special military operation to protect Donbass.
