Houthis report five militants killed in bombings in US and UK

Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels announced this Friday that five militants were killed and six wounded in US and British bombings in response to attacks in the Red Sea.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a televised address in Sanaa that the United States and Britain carried out a total of 73 attacks on several Houthi-controlled provinces in Yemen, killing five people and wounding six others.

U.S. Air Forces Middle East Command said it hit more than 60 targets in 16 locations in Yemen, including “command and control bases, ammunition depots, launch systems, manufacturing facilities and air defense radar systems.”

The airstrikes hit Yemen’s capital Sanaa and other cities controlled by Iran-backed Shiite rebels such as Hodeidah and Saada, Houthi TV channel Al-Massirah reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in a joint statement, the 10 participating countries (US, UK, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, New Zealand and South Korea) noted that the goal remains to “reduce tensions and restore stability in the Red Sea.”

“We will not hesitate to protect lives and the free flow of trade along one of the world’s most important shipping lanes in the face of ongoing threats,” they said.
