A Police Republic of Mozambique (PRM) officer is suspected of killing another local police officer and seriously injuring two minors as he tried to prevent the lynching of his alleged attackers by the public.
The incident occurred in the town of Beira in Sofala Province when a PRM agent tried to prevent the lynching of two alleged robbers by members of the public in the Makuti area.
“We found two people who were robbing houses, and when the police arrived, instead of protecting the population, they began to manipulate the weapon and shot the man in the head, injuring two children, one of them is my son,” Alcindo Mateus. said Lusa, the father of one of the victims, who said the officer was drunk.
The population also accuses the agent of failing to provide assistance to the victims.
Two minors, 12 and 14 years old, were hospitalized at Beira Central Hospital.
In a conversation with Lusa, the Sofala provincial police said that an investigation was underway to establish the circumstances of the incidents.
“We are still working to determine the real motive behind the incident. A team has been formed to investigate,” said PRM spokesman in Sofala Dersio Chakate.
